Everything feels terrible right now, so this is something for me to feel good about. I love this album, I love these songs. I originally recorded most of them about 5 years ago. However, last summer I lost my hard drive and everything on it, including the original recordings. While waiting months for a data company to try and retrieve the files, I decided to re-record all of them; which felt incredibly overwhelming and exciting at the same time. While I did eventually get the original recordings back (post them eventually, maybe?), I'm so very proud of these. One is about my father's mother coming to America; another about adolescent adventures with my childhood-best friend; a fable about my children's partnership; one inspired by a tree fungus in my yard that captured my imagination; one about about a fictional town-eccentric.. you know, the good stuff. I don't know that they're perfect or ready and I could spend many more months tinkering with them, but here there are. All songs were written and recorded by Michael Pernice at home in Bayport, NY, Fall 2019... plus some noodling took place in 2020.
